How to Remove Other Apps From Facebook & Instagram Business Integrations (Fix Auto DM Not Working)
How to Fix “You Are Not the Owner of the Thread” in ReplyRush
If your ReplyRush Auto DM is not working and you see an error like “You are not the owner of the thread,” it may mean another app, such as ManyChat, SocialPost, or another automation tool, is still connected to your Instagram or Facebook Page.
To make ReplyRush work correctly, remove conflicting integrations where necessary, review your messaging settings, and reconnect your accounts.
Follow the steps below to troubleshoot the issue.
1. Remove Apps From Facebook Business Integrations
Open Facebook in a desktop browser.
Go to Settings & Privacy → Settings.
Open Business Integrations.
Under Active, look for tools such as:
ManyChat
SocialPost
WIX
WordPress App
Any other messaging automation tool
Click Remove next to an app you no longer use.
If prompted, review the option to delete posts, photos, and videos the app may have posted on your timeline before confirming removal.
This removes the app's access through your personal Facebook Business Integrations settings.
2. Remove Apps From Meta Business Suite (Business Manager)
Some app integrations may also be managed through Meta Business settings.
Go to Meta Business Settings.
Open Integrations → Apps.
Select the unwanted app, such as ManyChat.
Click Remove if you no longer need the integration.
Review the app's permissions and remove integrations that may conflict with your messaging setup.
3. Remove Apps From Instagram Account Center
Open the Instagram app.
Go to Settings → Accounts Center.
Review the connected experiences and business integrations available in your account settings.
If you find an unwanted integration, open it and remove its access if the option is available.
Note: Instagram's app permissions and Accounts Center options can vary by account and app version. If you cannot find Business Integrations here, check Facebook Business Integrations and Meta Business Settings instead.
4. Turn Off Meta's Built-In Page Automations (If Enabled)
Some Facebook Pages have built-in automated messaging features enabled.
Open your Facebook Page.
Go to Settings.
Look for Messaging, Automated responses, or related messaging settings.
Review the following options:
Automated responses
Instant replies
Away messages
Turn off any automations that conflict with the messaging workflow you want ReplyRush to handle.
Menu names and available settings may vary depending on your Page configuration.
5. Reconnect Instagram and Facebook to ReplyRush
After reviewing and removing conflicting integrations:
Log out of your Meta accounts if necessary.
Open ReplyRush.
Go to Connect Instagram / Facebook.
Follow the account connection steps.
Review and grant the required permissions requested by Meta.
Reconnect the account to refresh the authorization and permissions used by ReplyRush.
6. Test Auto DM
After reconnecting your account:
Use another Instagram or Facebook account to interact with your connected Page.
Comment on a post using the configured trigger keyword, or send a message to test the relevant automation.
Check whether ReplyRush triggers the automation and sends the expected message.
Check the recipient's inbox and Message Requests if the message is not immediately visible.
If the automation works, the issue may have been related to an integration or permission conflict.
Why Removing Other Apps May Fix Auto DM Problems
When multiple messaging integrations are connected to the same Instagram or Facebook inbox, their permissions or automation workflows may conflict.
Meta may return an error such as:
You are not the owner of the thread
This can indicate that the app attempting to manage or reply to a conversation does not have the required ownership or permissions for that thread.
Reviewing conflicting integrations and reconnecting ReplyRush may help resolve the issue. However, removing other apps does not guarantee a fix because the cause may also involve Meta permissions, API behavior, or account restrictions.
If You Still See an Error
If the issue continues, try the following additional checks.
A. Check Your Instagram Account Type
Open Instagram and go to your account settings.
Review your current account type.
If necessary, verify that your account is configured as a Business or Creator account.
Confirm that your Instagram account is properly linked to the relevant Facebook Page.
Reconnect your account to ReplyRush if the connection or permissions have changed.
Important: Do not switch your account to Personal and back to Business as a routine troubleshooting step. This may disrupt your professional account setup and is not a guaranteed fix.
B. Recheck Your Instagram Account in Meta Business Settings
Go to Meta Business Settings.
Open Accounts → Instagram Accounts.
Verify that your Instagram account is listed under the correct business portfolio.
Check that the appropriate people and connected assets have the required permissions.
If the account is incorrectly linked, correct the configuration before reconnecting ReplyRush.
Avoid removing and re-adding your Instagram account unless necessary, as doing so may affect existing business asset connections.
C. Check for Meta Restrictions
If the problem persists after reviewing your integrations and permissions:
Check your Instagram Account Status.
Check your Facebook Page Status.
Look for messaging restrictions or permission errors.
Retry the automation after resolving any restrictions identified by Meta.
